Surveillance Detection for Bombing Prevention

The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services in a partnership with the United States Department of Homeland Security is pleased to announce “Surveillance Detection for Bombing Prevention” training in Ashburn, VA.

The purpose of this course is to provide public safety and security professionals the fundamental knowledge and skills to recognize hostile surveillance at facilities and planned and unplanned events and respond appropriately. The goal of this course is to provide fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to establish a detection capability to identify and mitigate a threat from hostile surveillance activity for bombing prevention.

This course provides public safety and security professionals with the knowledge and skills to employ the fundamentals of surveillance detection for bombing prevention related to a facility/system or a planned or unplanned event and to recognize hostile surveillance activity. The course includes an overview of surveillance, the terrorist attack cycle, and each of the five elements of the surveillance detection plan. It concludes with a capstone activity.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Hostile operations 

  • Vulnerability assessment 

  • Hostile surveillance requirements 

  • Surveillance detection requirements and fundamentals 

  • Activity reporting and response 

  • Compromise and deployment

Who should attend?

This training is open to sworn law enforcement officers, school security officers, campus security officers and private sector security staff.

Partial In-service Credit

Law enforcement officers, school security officers and campus security officers who complete this training are eligible to receive partial in-service credit hours (20 career development hours). 

Course Time and Details

  • Check-in for the training will begin at 8:00 AM.

  • Training will begin at 8:30 AM and conclude at or around 5:00 PM daily.

​Travel, Lodging and Meals

Participants are responsible for their transportation, meals, and lodging arrangements and expenses.

Cost and Registration

There is no fee to attend this training and all training materials will be provided for participants.
