The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services in partnership with The Humane Society of the United States is pleased to announce "Animal Cruelty and Fighting Investigations" training.
This training course reviews illegal animal abuse, including investigatory techniques, applicable state and federal laws and tips for successful outcomes.
Topics to be covered:
Considerations for assessing potential violations and different solutions/remedies
The link between animal abuse and other violent crime
Report writing and warrants
Recognizing and collecting relevant evidence
Interpreting and applying cruelty and fighting laws
This training is being offered to sworn law enforcement officers and animal service professionals.
Partial In-service Credit for Virginia law enforcement officers is PENDING APPROVAL. If approved, you must be present for the duration of the course to receive credit.
Transportation, lodging and meals are the responsibility of the participant.
Check in begins at 7:30 a.m.
Training begins at 8:00 a.m. and concludes at 5:00 p.m.
There is no fee to attend this training. Pre-registration is required.
Please note that the DCJS registration system does not have the capacity to sort eligible from ineligible registrants. Therefore, anyone who registers will receive a confirmation. It is the responsibility of the DCJS assigned course director to review the roster and make a final determination on acceptance into the course. Registrants not accepted will be notified via the email address provided during registration.
