The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) in partnership with the Western Tidewater Community Services Board is pleased to offer “We Are Not Alone: Suicide Prevention” Training. The training is to be held on January 26, 2022 in Locust Hill, VA. There is also a virtual option to take place the same date and times.
Please join this free suicide prevention training, hosted by Psychologist, Dr. Kent Corso. Dr. Corso, a U.S. Air Force Veteran, has researched, developed, and trained others to implement evidence-based methods of suicide prevention for over two decades.
Learning Objectives:
Adopt language for suicidality that is respectful and nonjudgmental
Assist patients with suicidal symptoms in a collaborative empowering way, anchored in their values and priorities
Assess suicide risk in 10 minutes or less
Discuss with patients, ambivalence, and reasons for living
Collaboratively devise a crisis response plan that may reduce suicide attempts by 76%
Provide brief interventions to de-activate the suicidal mode
This training is intended for sworn law enforcement officers, fire fighters, first responders, community members, social services, teachers and staff, therapists and anyone interested in learning Suicide Risk Management.
Partial In-service Credit (PIC) for Virginia law enforcement officers will be available.
There is no cost to attend this training, however pre-registration is required.
Participants are responsible for their transportation and lodging arrangements and expenses.
Check in will begin at 8:30 a.m. and course will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m
