Description
The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to announce “Basic Security Lighting” training on October 18, 2022 in Virginia Beach. This course is designed to provide a basic understanding of security lighting principals. The course will feature a combination of lecture, group discussion, and practical exercises. Participants completing this course will earn training hours towards their Crime Prevention Specialist certification/recertification requirements.
Intended Audience
This course is intended for individuals providing crime prevention services, and are currently working in local, state and federal law enforcement or government agencies, including colleges and universities, either sworn, civilian or volunteer.
Course Objectives
• Identify types of lighting and their attributes / deficiencies
• Define key lighting terms
• Identify units of measure for lighting
• Identify types of fixtures and uses
• Identify exterior lighting standards and areas to be lit
• Identify types of lighting meters and usage
• Conduct a night practical exercise assessing a facility for appropriate security lighting
Partial In-service Credit
Law enforcement and campus security officers will receive partial in-service credit hours for this training.
Cost
There is no registration fee for this course.
Transportation, Lodging, Meals
Participants are responsible for their transportation, lodging, and meal expenses.

Training runs from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Pre-registration is required. There is no cost to attend this training.
Please note that the DCJS registration system does not have the capacity to sort eligible from ineligible registrants. Therefore, anyone who registers will receive a confirmation. It is the responsibility of the DCJS assigned course director to review the roster and make a final determination on acceptance into the course. Registrants not accepted will be notified via the email address provided during registration.
