ALERRT Train-the-Trainer: Civilian Response and Casualty Care (CRCC)

Description

The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services is pleased to announce the delivery of the Civilian Response and Casualty Care (CRCC) Train-the-Trainer course in our statewide initiative promoting national standard levels of training, specifically within the area of active attacks. Virginia has taken the position to lead the way as a model in providing active attack instruction for our law enforcement/public safety members in the continued efforts of building resiliency and continuity when faced with mitigation of these events. The Civilian Response and Casualty Care (CRCC) course, designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend (ADD) strategy developed by ALERRT in 2004, provides strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. This course combines the civilian response with the Stop the Bleed Campaign, which empowers civilians to provide life-saving medical aid before first responders ever arrive. Topics include the history and prevalence of active shooter events, civilian response options, medical issues, and considerations for conducting drills. Participants in this Train-the-Trainer course will receive a manual and PowerPoint presentation suitable for use in their own presentations.

One of the primary DCJS objectives of this session is the development of in-house adjunct instructor cadres to meet the future training needs of our regional academies and our law enforcement partners across the Commonwealth. This train the trainer session will be utilized to begin building those active attack work groups for our training expansion mission. Registration selection will be closely monitored to ensure this initiative is met.
