The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to announce “Child Sex Trafficking Investigations” presented in cooperation with the National Criminal Justice Training Center of Fox Valley Technical College.
Description:
This training is designed for law enforcement and those in victim advocacy positions who partner with law enforcement. The training will delve into the complex child sex trafficking investigation and equip system members working with trafficking victims to increase the quality of their investigations and their interactions with victims.
Upon completion of this training, you will be able to:
- Identify risk factors for children vulnerable to sex traffickers
- Explain the intricacies of the victim interview and employ trauma-informed approaches
- Apply effective strategies for interacting with traffickers to obtain voluntary statements
- Recognize corroborative evidence commonly found in child sex trafficking cases
- Strengthen collaboration between law enforcement and advocates to better serve victims
Who should attend?
This training is intended for law enforcement officers and those who directly investigate child sex trafficking (CST) cases, victim advocates who work directly with CST victims, and child protection workers.

Partial In-service Credit (PIC) for Virginia law enforcement officers will be provided.

Instruction, Lodging, and Meals are the responsibility of participants.
Training Time and Details:
Check-in will begin at 7:30 am, and the course will run from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm each day.

There is no registration fee for this course; however, pre-registration is required.

- If creating a new account, you will receive an email confirmation when the account is set up. You will receive an ID to use for logging in and be directed to reset your password.
- Once the account is set up, you can register for the class. You will see a screen that states that you have successfully registered upon completing the registration questions.
- Your registration is now pending, and you will receive an email once your spot in the class is confirmed

Please note that the DCJS registration system does not have the capacity to sort eligible from ineligible registrants. Therefore, anyone who registers will receive a confirmation. It is the responsibility of the DCJS-assigned course coordinator to review the roster and make a final determination on acceptance into the course.
