The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to announce “Cognitive Fitness Training for First Responders” presented by My Steady Mind.

My Steady Mind is a cognitive fitness training program designed by experts and backed by science that teaches strategies, skills and benefits of cognitive fitness training for first responders. Cognitive fitness training equips you with tools, techniques, and practical tactics that instantly reduce stress and enables you to perform in flow state. This course provides fundamental knowledge and practical skills necessary to optimize performance in high-pressure situations. Cognitive fitness is a blend of emotional intelligence training, neuroscience, sport, psychology, and mindfulness. 

In this workshop, participants will have an opportunity to cultivate a steady mind by learning about:

  • Neuroplasticity

  • STEA (Stimulus/Thoughts/Emotions/Actions)

  • Resilience

  • Presence

  • Focus

  • Confidence

  • Gratitude

  • Emotional Intelligence

Dr. Hickerson specializes in providing coaching and training to professionals working in high stress environments, developing strategic ways to recognize stress and improve performance. His past clients include law-enforcement, US Navy, professional athletes, NASA and other professionals.

The course will focus on proactive training techniques to develop simple mental routines to reduce exhaustion and burn out.

Who Should Attend?

This training class is being offered to Virginia first responders, emergency communication operators, peer support members, campus law enforcement, campus security personnel, and other public safety professionals.

Partial In-service Credit

Partial In-service Credit for law enforcement will be available.

Cost and Registration

There is no registration fee to attend this training.
