The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) in partnership with the Virginia Department of State Police and the Virginia Fusion Center, is pleased to announce training on “Domestic Terrorism: Ideologies, Groups, Symbols and Tactics.” This two-day relevant and timely training, on October 18-19, 2021 in Charlottesville, Virginia, will provide law enforcement officers with an introductory overview of numerous domestic terror groups and criminally subversive subcultures which are encountered by law enforcement professionals on a daily basis. The course will provide a definition of violent extremism and focus on individuals and groups that attempt to advance social or political beliefs through force or violence.
Law enforcement professionals will be educated on the First Amendment and the Constitutional protections afforded to all groups discussed. At the conclusion of the course, attendees will be trained to identify racially and ideologically motivated behavior and discern between criminal activity and First Amendment protected speech and actions.
This training is being offered to sworn Virginia law enforcement officers only.
Law enforcement officers will receive approximately 16 PIC hours. Please note: PIC hours are an estimate and may change due to unforeseen circumstances.
There is no fee to attend this training. Pre-registration is required.
Transportation, lodging and meals are the responsibility of the participant.
Participants will be required to complete a Participant Screening and Waiver prior to attending the training. This will be emailed to registrants before the training and will also be available to complete at check-in on the day of the training.
PLEASE NOTE: DCJS is preparing and planning to continue holding training sessions and conferences after a resumption of normal activities. Every effort will be made to hold this scheduled training, however, due to the uncertainty of the progression of the COVID-19, this training may require rescheduling. You will be notified by email if this training is rescheduled. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding
