The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services is pleased to announce “Sexual Abuse Investigations: Disclosure to Prosecution” training.

This intensive two-day training program is designed to equip law enforcement officers with cutting-edge skills and knowledge to effectively handle sexual assault cases. This comprehensive curriculum combines theory, practical exercises, and real-world scenarios to enhance your investigative techniques and victim support strategies.

Topics to be covered:

  • Implement best practices in initial victim contacts and response
  • Cognitive interviewing techniques for trauma-affected individuals
  • Collaboration-based investigative strategies
  • Importance of proper evidence collection
  • Capabilities and usefulness of forensic exams
  • Importance of a multi-disciplinary approach
  • State and Federal law

Who Should Attend:

This training is open to sworn law enforcement, prosecutors, investigators, analysts, and other criminal justice professionals.

Partial In-service Credit (PIC):

Partial In-service Credit for law enforcement officers will be available.

Travel, Lodging, and Meals:

Participants are responsible for their own transportation, lodging arrangements, and expenses.

Training Details:

Check-in will begin at 7:30 am, and the course will be held from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm each day.

Cost and Registration:

There is no cost to attend this training; however, pre-registration is required.

Please note that the DCJS registration system does not have the capacity to sort eligible from ineligible registrants. Therefore, anyone who registers will receive a confirmation. It is the responsibility of the DCJS-assigned course coordinator to review the roster and make a final determination on acceptance into the course. Denied registrants will be notified via the email address provided during registration.
