The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services is pleased to announce an Introduction to Domestic Extremism and Hate Groups training on October 17, 2019 in Middletown, Virginia. This one-day training will provide Virginia law enforcement officers with an introductory overview of numerous domestic terror groups and criminally subversive subcultures which are encountered by law enforcement professionals on a daily basis. The course will provide a definition of violent extremism and focus on individuals and groups that attempt to advance social or political beliefs through force or violence and in violation of state or federal law. Domestic extremist movements covered will include white supremacists/white nationalists, black identity extremists, anarchists, animal rights and eco-terrorists, anti-government and other radical separatists groups.
During the full-day training, law enforcement professionals will be educated on the First Amendment and the Constitutional protections it affords to all groups discussed. At the conclusion of the course, law enforcement will be trained to identify violent extremism and discern between criminal activity and First Amendment protected speech and actions.

Law enforcement officers will receive approximately 8 PIC hours. Please note: PIC hours are an estimate and may change due to unforeseen circumstances.

Therefore, anyone who registers will receive a confirmation. It is the responsibility of the DCJS assigned course director to review the roster and make a final determination on acceptance into the course.
