Mark your calendars for the “Virginia Campus Safety and Violence Prevention Forum,” to be held March 12 - 13, 2024 at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott in Norfolk, Virginia hosted by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) in partnership with the Virginia Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (VACLEA), and the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA).
The forum will bring together experts in the field of violence prevention, campus sexual assault, the Clery Act, Title IX, intimate partner violence, and mental health to discuss the latest research, policies, legal challenges, interdisciplinary cooperation, and reporting issues. Structured to encourage a cross-disciplinary approach to these complex campus and community public health issues, attendees will have significant opportunities to share expertise and resources with colleagues from across the country.

Campus police and security personnel, municipal law enforcement with a connection to institutions of higher education, student conduct professionals, Title IX coordinators and investigators, counseling and women’s center professionals, prosecutors, mental health professionals, victim advocates, residence life staff, and other interested campus or community personnel.
Pre-Conference ~ March 11, 2024 8:00am to 12:00pm
Recognizing and Responding to Concerning, Aberrant or Threatening Behaviors (Morning Session)
This 4-hour training will:
Help participants to understand modes of violence.
Introduce participants to concepts of violence prevention and the role of threat assessment in violence prevention.
Help participants to understand concepts of concerning, aberrant, and threatening behavior, including the importance of context in examining behavior.
Help participants to understand the importance of bystander engagement and the role of reporting in threat assessment.
Pre-Conference ~ March 11, 2024 1:00pm to 4:00pm
SafeTALK (Afternoon Session)
This 3-hour training by LivingWorks will:
Equip participants to be more alert to someone thinking of suicide and better able to connect them with further help
Introduce participants to a simple yet effective model that empowers everyone to make a difference

Title IX Investigation Foundations for Higher Education
This course equips individuals with the essential skills to carry out investigations of sex- and gender-based violence, harassment, and discrimination complaints. It also includes a comprehensive examination of the Title IX Formal Grievance Process and the role that the investigation, investigator, and investigation report play in it. Participants can easily customize the concepts and investigation framework to investigations under other civil rights laws, such as Title VI, Title VII, the ADA, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
In addition, the course offers the Title IX Fundamentals online pre-learning experience that satisfies both Title IX and VAWA Section 304 training requirements for participants.

This course will be instructed by the Association of Title I Administrators (ATIXA).
Partial in-service credit for law enforcement officers is available.

The conference rate of $107 plus tax per night rate will be available until February 18, 2024.
Lunch will be served to all registered participants each day of the conference.
On-site parking is available at the hotel garage for a discounted rate of $13 per day.
Participants are responsible for their transportation, lodging, and other meal costs.
$75.00 registration fee for the Virginia Campus Safety and Violence Prevention Forum includes all general conference activities on Tuesday March 12 and Wednesday, March 13, plus the pre-conference training on Monday, March 11, and the post conference training on March 14. A $20 processing fee will apply to payments not made by credit card at the time of registration. Payment must be received prior to conference attendance.

A limited number of registration and lodging scholarships are available to Virginia members of the intended audience. Complete the Scholarship Application to request a scholarship. Please note that in an effort to accommodate as many of our constituents as possible, the number of scholarships awarded to a single agency will be limited.
Vendors with campus safety related products and services are invited and encouraged to participate in the Forum. The registration fee for VENDORS is $500 per vendor and $250 for non-profits if paid via credit card at the time of registration. A $20 processing fee will apply to payments not made by credit card at the time of registration. Registration fee includes skirted table, electricity and Wi-Fi, lunch, and entry into Keynote and Breakout/Workshop sessions.
