FY27 Byrne Justice Assistance Gun Violence Awareness and Prevention Initiatives

The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) announces the availability of federal Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funding to support Gun Violence Awareness and Prevention Initiatives funding across the Commonwealth of Virginia.

This competitive grant opportunity provides funding to support evidence-informed gun violence awareness, prevention, intervention, and reduction efforts. Please see the full funding opportunity for details related to the funding areas of focus and allowable items.

Funding Details:

  • Grant Program: Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program
  • Project Period: November 1, 2026 – August 31, 2028
  • Expected Total Amount of Funding: DCJS anticipates $2,000,000 ($1,000,000/year) will be available under this solicitation and expects that these funds will support multiple awards.
  • Match Requirement: 25% cash or in-kind local match
  • Funding Type: Cost-reimbursement for approved expenses
  • Continuation funding: There is no continuation funding available. Recipients must be able to accomplish grant goals within the grant project period.

Eligible Applicants:

This funding opportunity is open to all Virginia units of local government. (For purposes of the JAG Program, a “unit of local government” is a city, county, township, town, or certain federally recognized American Indian tribes.) Eligible localities may submit only one application under a single focus area in response to this funding opportunity.

Application Submission:

Applications must be submitted through the DCJS Online Grants Management System (OGMS) by July 28, 2026, at 3:00 p.m.
