1:30-3:30 pm

The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the virtual training “Sibling Violence and Sexual Abuse.”  This training will provide valuable insight into the complexities of sibling abuse, including protective and risk factors, the impact of this abuse on the survivor and the family, and trauma-informed interventions to address it.

Session Description:

This training will address clinical assessment and intervention strategies relevant to children, families, and adult sibling violence and sexual abuse survivors. The covered content will include an integrative-developmental approach to conceptualizing sibling violence and sexual abuse, the evidence-based risk and protective factors for sibling abuse survivors, offenders, and families, and a description of individual and family assessment concerns, the impact of family size, culture, and gender composition on abusive sibling interactions in families.  Participants will learn the criteria for distinguishing between sibling rivalry and sibling violence and the evidence demonstrating the effects of sibling sexual abuse on marriage rates and family ties in adulthood.  Dr.Caffaro will also explore trauma-informed intervention strategies for addressing sibling violence and sexual abuse in individual, dyadic, and family treatment and policy and planning implications.
