ALERRT Active Shooter Level 1 - Train the Trainer

  • Yorktown, VA - 07/15/2024 04:00 AM

The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to announce the ALERRT Active Shooter Level 1 Train the Trainer course in our statewide initiative promoting national standard levels of training, specifically within the area of active attacks. Virginia has taken the position to lead the way as a model in providing active attack instruction for our law enforcement/public safety members in the continued efforts of building resiliency and continuity when faced with mitigation of these events. The train‑the‑trainer course includes the complete delivery of the ALERRT Active Shooter Level I course of study as well as instructional techniques and methodology for delivering the course, force‑on‑force scenario development, safety protocols and procedures, graded participant teach‑backs, graded participant‑led force‑on‑force scenarios, remediation, video debrief, course critiques, and evaluations. Participants are provided with all lesson plans, PowerPoint presentations, student manuals, and related courseware so that they are immediately prepared to deliver the Active Shooter Level I course at their home agency.

One of the primary DCJS objectives of this session is the development of in-house Level 1 adjunct instructor cadres’ to meet the future training needs of our regional academies and our law enforcement partners across the Commonwealth. This train the trainer session will be utilized to begin building those active attack work groups for our training expansion mission. Registration selection will be closely monitored to ensure this initiative is met.
