Description:
The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services is pleased to announce “First Line Supervisor Training for Campus Security Officers,” a three-day course for college/university campus security personnel. This course is designed for those who are newly promoted or soon to be promoted to first-line supervisor status and will include a discussion of the transition from subordinate staff to supervisor.
Topics will address some of the more common situations and problems encountered, including the legal implications (including EEO and liability laws) for supervisors and the most important skill, communication, from a new perspective. This interactive, attendee-driven course will provide opportunities to exchange ideas in preparation for this transition, including coaching and disciplinary scenarios.
Topics Include:
- An introduction to supervision
- Stress awareness for supervisors
- Interpersonal communication for supervisors
- The colors of supervision (Managing in culturally diverse workplaces)
- Dealing with employees
- Supervisor liability issues
- Conflict resolution and mentoring
- Discipline
Intended Audience:
The training is intended for Campus Security Officers (CSO) only.
Training Time and Details:
The training hours for all training days will be 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. Registration will begin each day at 7:30 am
Travel, Lodging, and Meals:
Participants are responsible for their own transportation, lodging, and meals.
Registration and Cost
Pre-registration is required; however, there is no cost to attend this training.
Please note that the DCJS registration system does not have the capacity to sort eligible from ineligible registrants. Therefore, anyone who registers will receive a confirmation. It is the responsibility of the DCJS-assigned course coordinator to review the roster and make a final determination on acceptance into the course. Denied registrants will be notified via the email address provided during registration.
