Substantial Risk Orders - Virginia's "Red Flag" Laws Webinar

Course Description

The Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to announce the  “Substantial Risk Orders - Virginia’s “Red Flag” Laws” training webinar. The Virginia Substantial Risk Order laws allow for the removal of firearms from persons deemed to be a substantial risk to themselves or others by their purchase, possession, or acquisition of firearms. This webinar will provide an overview of Virginia’s Substantial Risk Order laws enacted July 1, 2020. This program is intended to provide instruction on the law, its procedures, and law enforcement recommendations. DCJS staff will be available to moderate and guide the agenda, along with an Attorney for the Commonwealth to field questions at the end of the presentation. 

Who Should Attend?

This course is intended for sworn law enforcement officers and prosecuting attorney’s working for a Commonwealth Attorney's Office.

Partial In-service Credit

Partial in-service credit is not available for this training.

Cost and Registration

There is no registration fee to attend this training. Pre-registration is required. The webinar will be hosted via Zoom.

Please note that the DCJS registration system does not have the capacity to sort eligible from ineligible registrants. Therefore, anyone who registers will receive a confirmation. It is the responsibility of the DCJS assigned course director to review the roster and make a final determination on acceptance into the course. Registrants not accepted will be notified via the email address provided during registration.
