The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, in partnership with the Commonwealth’s Attorneys’ Services Council, is pleased to announce that registration is now open for Expert Testimony in Sexual and Domestic Violence Cases.
Interested in being an expert witness?
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to testify in court?
Do you have years of experience working with adult victims of domestic violence or sexual assault?
This is a training for those who would like to learn more about being an expert witness in adult domestic and sexual violence cases. This one-day training will cover:
- Who is qualified to be an expert in Virginia?
- How do I best prepare for court?
- How do I prepare my CV?
- What are the limitations to being an expert?
- Can I get paid for my time as an expert?
- What is it like to testify?

Who should attend?
Community-based victim advocates and mental health professionals who work with adult victims of sexual violence and/or domestic violence. Please note that space is limited to 30 participants; therefore, if you do not work in any of these disciplines, your registration may be cancelled.
Please note that the DCJS registration system does not have the capacity to sort eligible from ineligible registrants. Therefore, anyone who registers will receive a confirmation. The DCJS assigned course director will review the roster and can cancel any ineligible registrants. Any registrants not accepted will be notified via the email address provided in the registration system.
Because space is limited, it is important to notify the course director if you are unable to attend. If you need to make any changes to your registration, please email Jennifer Kline at jennifer.kline@dcjs.virginia.gov.
Participant Registration and Cost: Preregistration is required. There is no cost to register. Participants are responsible for their transportation and lodging costs.
