The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is pleased to announce a 2-day, 16-hour in-service training designed to meet the re-certification requirements for Campus Security Officers and School Security Officers.
DAY 1: Day one is a full-day session entitled “Know More, Do More: Recognizing and Responding to Stalking.” Stalking is a prevalent, dangerous and often misunderstood crime. This training explores the dynamics of stalking, common tactics used by offenders (including the use of technology to stalk) and stalking’s co-occurrence with domestic and sexual violence. This training will also address stalking with adolescents, stalking on campus, and provide tools and strategies to plan for victim safety and hold offenders accountable.
DAY 2: Day 2 will start off with a session on adolescent development, mental health and trauma with a focus on skills to recognize and respond to students dealing with the challenges faced in adolescence in both secondary and post-secondary school settings. The afternoon session will explore the many ways in which the internet and social media can be used to exploit youth and measuring for prevention and intervention.
Who Should Attend?
This training class is intended for campus and municipal law enforcement, campus security officers, Title IX coordinators and investigators, campus conduct administrators, school resource officers, school security officers, and victim advocates.
Partial In-service Credit
Partial In-service Credit for law enforcement and school/campus security officers is available to include the legal content requirement.
Training Time and Details
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
Training begins at 9:00 a.m. and concludes at 5:00 p.m. each day
Travel, Lodging, and Meals
Participants are responsible for their transportation, meals, and lodging arrangements and related expenses.
Cost and Registration
There is no registration fee to attend this training. Pre-registration is required.
Please note that the DCJS registration system does not have the capacity to sort eligible from ineligible registrants. Therefore, anyone who registers will receive a confirmation. It is the responsibility of the DCJS assigned course director to review the roster and make a final determination on acceptance into the course. Registrants not accepted will be notified via the email address provided during registration.
