Document Inspection for Law Enforcement

Description

The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) in a partnership with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) is pleased to offer Louisiana State University’s National Center for Biomedical Research and Training’s (LSU-NCBRT) “Document Inspection for Law Enforcement” course.

This course will introduce participants to known methods that criminals use to alter or counterfeit documents commonly presented to law enforcement and public safety officers. Examples of fraudulent, fictitious or counterfeit documents (such as state and international driver’s licenses, passports, and visas) will be provided, along with resources that are available to detect fraudulent information. This course provides participants the opportunity to examine these documents in a hands-on activity. Participants will also learn how to use facial recognition in order to prevent criminal activity and participate in a hands-on document examination exercise.

Topics to be discussed include:

  • Security Features

  • Identity Documents

  • Detecting Imposters and Document Analysis Exercise
