Description of Training
The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, in partnership with the Commonwealth's Attorneys' Services Council and Bon Secours Violence Response Team, is pleased to announce that registration is open for Mastering the Stand: Expert Witness Testimony for Forensic Nurses.
Mastering the Stand: Expert Witness Testimony for Forensic Nurses is a comprehensive training designed to equip forensic nurses with the skills and confidence needed to provide effective and professional testimony in legal proceedings. This course covers the fundamentals of serving as an expert witness, including preparation techniques, courtroom communication strategies, and methods for presenting complex medical information clearly and persuasively. Participants will gain practical insights to enhance their credibility and impact, ensuring their testimony supports justice while maintaining ethical standards.
Who should attend?
Forensic Nurse Examiners (FNE) and Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE)
Space is limited to 30 participants.
Please note that the DCJS registration system does not have the capacity to sort eligible from ineligible registrants. Therefore, anyone who registers will receive a confirmation. The DCJS assigned course director will review the roster and will cancel any ineligible registrants. Any registrants not accepted will be notified via the email address provided in the registration system.

Participant Registration: Preregistration is required. Registration will be based on a first come, first serve basis.

Requirements for Course Completion:
The entire course must be attended to receive a certificate of course completion.
This activity has been submitted to the International Association of Forensic Nurses for approval to award contact hours. The International Association of Forensic Nurses is accredited as an approver of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Cost: There is no fee for this course. Participants are responsible for their own transportation and lodging costs.
Meals: Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided both days.
